Die Konferenz „Academic Publishing in Europe (APE)“ hat bereits seit 2006 einen festen Platz im Veranstaltungskalender für Verlage, Bibliotheken und Wissenschaft. Inzwischen findet die APE bereits zum 16. Mal statt. Am 12. und 13. Januar 2021 treffen sich in Berlin wieder einmal ausgewiesene Fachleute aus dem Verlags- und Bibliothekswesen, um über aktuelle Entwicklungen im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen zu informieren und zu diskutieren. Die APE läutet somit die Konferenz- und Veranstaltungsreihe des neuen Jahres ein. Durch die Einschränkungen, die durch COVID-19 erlassen wurden, findet die APE 2021 für Besucherinnen und Besucher „nur“ als virtuelle Online-Konferenz statt, d.h. alle Sessions werden live gestreamt und sind im Anschluss für die Ticketinhaber auch zeitversetzt abrufbar. Das diesjährige Veranstaltungsmotto lautet „The New Face of Trust“. Damit kommt zum Ausdruck, dass die Forschung sich zunehmend globalen Herausforderungen wie Klimawandel, globale Pandemien, Cyberkriegen etc. stellen muss. Hierfür braucht es überzeugende Antworten, auch um das Vertrauen in das wissenschaftliche Publizieren und die Expertise der Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen zurückzugewinnen.
